Aka-Sahan Kourouma

Founder & Holistic Specialist

With over 30 years of expertise, Aka-Sahan Kourouma is a cornerstone of natural wellness in Chicago. Her journey began in Côte d’Ivoire, where her entrepreneurial spirit took root in youth, beauty, health, and wellness. This path eventually led her to New York to become a licensed cosmetologist and later to Chicago to earn a post-graduate certificate in skin, hair, and bodywork. She also graduated from the Soma Institute for Clinical Massage Therapy.

While she established her legacy as the founder of the original Sahan Motherland African Hair Braiding Salon & Spa in Hyde Park (the legendary neighborhood of the 44th President, Barack Obama), Aka-Sahan is proud to announce that she has transitioned to her own private studio located in the Chesterfield area. This new space serves as a clinical, holistic sanctuary designed for personalized, restorative care.

With a specialized, chemical-free approach, Aka-Sahan integrates her background in science and biology to provide a haven for those seeking alternatives to harsh chemicals. She remains a "go-to" expert for:

  • Precision Eyebrow Artistry and body waxing

  • Clinical Skincare and advanced facials

  • Restorative Touch Therapy

Driven by Purpose Her work is dedicated to clients managing sensitive skin conditions or hair loss from alopecia and chemical damage. Her dream has required years of sacrifice and tireless work, but for Aka-Sahan, building a brand as a leader in natural wellness in Chesterfield has been worth every moment. She invites you to experience a service built on 30 years of clinical knowledge, ancestral roots, and a mission to bring out the absolute best in everyone she serves.
